Volunteering

Supporting our local communities

The Cotswold Decorative and Fine Arts Society is proud that our members are involved in volunteering in a wide variety of projects. Many of our members volunteer to act as guides at stately home, National Trust premises and local museums. Others take on Church Recording. We are always looking projects with which our members could become involved and which would help to preserve our heritage.

Our Society also has a ‘Young Arts’ programme. We seek relationships with primary and secondary schools in the Cotswolds with a view to making a grant to help them buy equipment or materials, bring in artists, or arrange visits to museums, art galleries and historic houses.

Church Recording

For many years NADFAS volunteers have helped with recording the wealth of artefacts contained within our parish churches. Cotswold DFAS volunteers have contributed many years of work to this important facet of our heritage, most recently the parish church of Shipton-under-Wychwood. In the past few years we have joined with other nearby Decorative and Fine Arts Societies in offering opportunities for our members to become involved in this important activity.

Heritage Volunteering

Cotswold DFAS members play a dedicated and supportive part in our local heritage. Members volunteer at the Museum services in Standlake, the Tolsey Museum Burford and Stonor Park and they help guide the public at several National Trust properties. Kelmscott Manor (owned and managed by the Society of Antiquaries) are always grateful for volunteers.

As an example of the type of project that the Cotswold DFAS carry out, we are currently investigating with the Tourist Board and Tolsey Museum the possibility of developing a short booklet on the architecture of Burford High Street, aimed at tourists and visitors.

We would welcome all volunteers who would like to assist with such projects as well as with our existing commitments. Please contact Sandie Gowland at info@cotswolddfas.org for further information.
